STABLE SURVIVORS – A Veterans Project

Designed and implemented to assist veterans with re-adjustment issues and PTSD, the Stable Survivors project is facilitated through a partnership with the Modesto Vet Center, a Veterans Administration facility.

The EAGALA model of equine assisted psychotherapy (the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association) is utilized for this project.  Healing Arenas facilitators have been certified by EAGALA since 2007.  We will attain our special EAGALA Military Designation in 2017.  Click on this EAGALA link to view the parameters as well as an informational video!   (       Certified PRO RGB WEB 3

Waiting to organize and begin this project with the Modesto Vet Center has been the key to the project’s validity and provides the utmost of care of our veterans.  The Vet Center was established by the V.A. to provide psychotherapy and counseling services for combat veterans.   All Vet Center counselors are veterans as well.  As the permanent Stable Survivors Project progresses, we will have the ability to see all veterans, including those who did not serve in combat.  We are proud to provide a special Alumni Group for all Stable Survivors, where participants can come back out for a group session and re-connect with the horses, and with each other.  “I never went to any groups or anything, before I attended the group (Stable Survivors)”, says Roger, SS Alumni.  “Now I participate in a couple of different groups and I feel very good”.

Community partnerships have been established to assist with this project including the Escalon Lions Club, the American Legion Post 263, the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Oakdale, and many more.  We are proud to serve our veterans, and our sole source of support is through community partnerships and one of our fundraisers, “Shooting for the Stable”.  This Benefit is a annual Trap Shoot competition, Live Auction and Gun Raffle Dinner by the infamous local House of Beef.  Held in October each year, this Benefit is widely attended and we so appreciate the consideration of our communities!

We are grateful to our community for recognizing our efforts with our nation’s veterans.  Thank you to 209 Magazine for featuring us in the Aug/Sept 2016 Issue (no. 15)!  Read here: .
